LOCAL ALMUNICAR HOLIDAY GUIDE
Almunecar- Costa Del Sol -Spain
Widely known for Flamenco music, dance, bull-fights, fantastic beaches and lots of sunshine, Spain has to offer much more than that. It is - and has been for thousands of years - one of the cultural centres of Europe. It has beautiful cities and towns, offering really old monuments as well as futuristic architecture. Its various regions are all different one to each other, geographically, climatically and even in personality.
The Costa del Sol extends along the 161 kilometres of coastline belonging to the province of Málaga. It is located in the south of Spain, in the western extreme of the Mediterranean. The Costa del Sol has a Mediterranean climate with relatively high temperatures for Europe. Apart from the villages with a rural air, today there are housing developments, yacht harbours, golf courses, centres of entertainment, night clubs and many other tourist attractions. Fortunately, all of them blend perfectly with the traditional, peaceful atmosphere enveloping towns and villages, miraculously and faithfully preserved in their original mould.
Crowned by the remains of its Moorish castle, the old town of Almuñécar huddles tightly to the flanks of what was historically an irregular promontory jutting out between the Rio Verde and Rio Seco estuaries. But which, with the silting up of the river mouths over the centuries, now stands separating two alluvial flood plains whose shorefronts now comprise the city's principal beaches of Playa Puerta del Mar (Rio Verde) and, to the west of the town centre, the Playa San Cristóbal (Rio Seco).
