LOCAL ALMERIA HOLIDAY GUIDE
Widely known for Flamenco music, dance, bull-fights, fantastic beaches and lots of sunshine, Spain has to offer much more than that. It is - and has been for thousands of years - one of the cultural centres of Europe. It has beautiful cities and towns, offering really old monuments as well as futuristic architecture. Its various regions are all different one to each other, geographically, climatically and even in personality.
The province of Almeria is situated in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula, on the shores of the Mediterranean located at the foot of a mountain range. Which is crowned by the magnificent Alcazaba, an Arab fortress built by the Calph of Cordoba, Abd-erRahman 111 with three huge walled enclosures (in the second of which are remains of a mosque, converted to a chapel by the Catholic kings). The passing of time has also had a great influence on the landscape. In Almeria it is therefore possible to find modern and bustling tourist centres as well as those natural areas.
Almeria's new airport is located about 8km east of the capital. Access is by the N340 highway and is well signposted from the Autovia. The airport is located on the very edge of the Mediterranean Sea, the runways running parallel with the coastline. The airport has two active runways and the apron can handle up to eleven aircraft at any given time. It can also handle small, sports aircraft. |
